The western literary tradition holds Venus was born from the castration wounds of her father, Ouranus, rising from the splash of foam his amputation created in the seas. Yet the master painters Appelles and Botticelli depicted her birth in mystic autonomy, fully grown and upright from the lips of a scallop shell. The VENUS CROWBAR encapsulates these savage and sophisticated mythic traditions, in a piece which summons and stresses the body weight of its holder. The participant is urged to manage their commitment by extending their arm as necessary, absorbing and alleviating tension.
